One Health Webinar on Important Updates on Rabies for Veterinary Practitioners and Students

Rabies remains a major zoonotic disease requiring vigilance across veterinary practice and public health. This webinar provides an updated overview of important considerations for veterinarians and veterinary students, covering clinical suspicion, safe handling, diagnostic confirmation, vaccination, exposure management, surveillance, and prevention. The session also examines the veterinarian’s role in recognizing suspected cases, protecting veterinary personnel and animal owners, supporting timely reporting, and contributing to broader rabies-control efforts. Particular emphasis is placed on practical considerations that can influence case management, including relevant history, neurological and behavioural signs, diagnostic limitations, and coordination with appropriate authorities. The discussion also highlights the importance of a One Health approach to reducing animal-to-human transmission and strengthening rabies prevention.
