Haemonchus contortus in sheep and goat, and the concern of anthelmintic resistance
Haemonchus contortus, commonly known as the barber's pole worm, is one of the most economically significant gastrointestinal parasites affecting sheep and goats worldwide. Severe infections can result in anaemia, reduced productivity, poor weight gain, and mortality, while the widespread emergence of anthelmintic resistance has made parasite control increasingly challenging. This webinar explores the epidemiology, life cycle, pathogenesis, clinical signs, diagnosis, and integrated management of H. contortus, with a special focus on sustainable parasite control strategies. Participants will learn about targeted selective treatment, FAMACHA® scoring, pasture management, fecal egg count monitoring, and responsible anthelmintic use. Designed for veterinary students, postgraduate learners, field veterinarians, researchers, and livestock practitioners, this session provides practical solutions for effective parasite management.
